Dogs + Medications

  • Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine used to prevent the symptoms of allergies. This medication may also be used for its sedative effect to calm an animal and prevent itching associated with an allergic response. This medication may be used for other conditions as determined by your veterinarian.

  • Dorzolamide is used in the eye to decrease the pressure caused by primary glaucoma. If glaucoma is diagnosed in one eye, this medication may be used in the other eye (good eye) to prevent glaucoma from developing. Dorzolamide is also used in secondary glaucoma because it has no effect on pupil size.

  • Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant used in dogs to treat certain skin conditions that may be caused by anxiety.

  • Doxycycline is a semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic used to treat infections. This medication has been prescribed for your pet to treat a bacterial infection.

  • Antibiotic ear drops are generally used to treat a bacterial ear infection, also known as bacterial otitis externa. Topical preparations are available as single medications or as combinations; common antibiotic preparations include neomycin, gentamicin, polymyxin B, enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine. These medications may also be combined with antifungal agents and/or corticosteroids.

  • Antifungal ear drops are generally used to treat a yeast infection that is known as Malassezia pachydermatis. Topical antifungal medications include miconazole, clotrimazole, nystatin and thiabendazole. These medications may be combined with corticosteroids, which are used to decrease inflammation.

  • Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. This medication may be used to treat high blood pressure and to dilate the veins and decrease fluid retention in heart failure. This medication may be used for other conditions as prescribed by your veterinarian. High blood pressure makes the heart work harder. Over time, the heart and arteries may become damaged and not function correctly. This can lead to damage or malfunction of the brain, heart, and kidneys.

  • Enrofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This medication has been prescribed for your pet to treat a bacterial infection. It may be prescribed to treat urinary tract, skin or respiratory tract infections.

  • Ephedrine is used to help control urinary incontinence (urine leakage) in dogs and cats. It may also be used to open up the air passages of the lungs and to relieve nasal congestion. Ephedrine is an alpha-receptor stimulant.

  • Famotidine is a histamine-blocking agent. It helps reduce the amount of gastric acid secreted in the stomach. Famotidine has been used for treating or helping to manage gastric or duodenal ulcers. It has also been used to treat gastritis and reflux conditions.
